About Calibogue Marine

Hilton Head's marine construction specialists. Saltwater expertise, local permitting knowledge, and hurricane-ready engineering.

How We Got Here

Calibogue Marine Construction started because Hilton Head had plenty of general contractors willing to build docks, but few who understood what saltwater does to a structure over time. We watched fasteners corrode within three years of installation because they were spec'd for inland work. We saw pilings lean after the first tropical storm because they were set too shallow for tidal scour. We repaired docks that were only five or six years old because no one had accounted for marine borer activity below the waterline.

Hilton Head homeowners invest significantly in their waterfront properties: in Sea Pines and Windmill Harbour, in the homes along Broad Creek, in the retirement and second-home communities that make this place what it is. A dock should match that investment. It should be the structure you walk out on every evening to watch the sunset over the Calibogue Sound, the platform where your grandchildren fish off the end, the foundation that holds your boat safely through hurricane season and the quiet months alike.

We started building docks with that standard. Marine-grade materials, engineered connections, pilings embedded to proper depth for storm resistance. On a per-year basis, a well-built dock costs less than one you replace twice.

Over the years we've expanded from dock construction into boat lift installation, shoreline stabilization, and dock repair across Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort, and Daufuskie Island. We've navigated Beaufort County permit processes and HOA architectural reviews dozens of times. We've learned which piling depths hold in the pluff mud along Broad Creek and which hardware survives a decade on the open Calibogue Sound. Every structure still gets designed for the specific conditions of its waterfront.

What We Believe About Building

"A dock should outlast the mortgage on the house behind it."

We treat that as a design constraint. Concrete-encapsulated pilings for an exposed sound-front property will stand for fifty years. Treated timber on a protected creek lot serves the conditions without overbuilding, and the homeowner's money goes further elsewhere. We match materials to conditions.

We limit the number of projects we take on at any given time. Hilton Head's dock construction runs year-round, but weather windows, tide schedules, and permit timelines mean that overcommitting leads to delays and mistakes. We'd rather turn down work than deliver something we aren't proud of.

On an island this size, every homeowner knows who built their neighbor's dock. We protect our reputation through the work itself.

Your Dock, Our Reputation

We're fully licensed for marine construction in South Carolina and carry comprehensive liability and workers' compensation coverage. Our crew lives on Hilton Head, not itinerant workers following storm seasons up the coast.

When you call, you're talking to someone who knows the difference between a Broad Creek address and a Calibogue Sound address, and what that means for your dock. Get started with a consultation or call (843) 502-6361.
